Datum is an architecture journal created each year at Iowa State University. It provides a platform for students to share their projects and thoughts on the profession. The focus of this edition was to examine various perspectives in the field of architecture and what influences it.
Working with Alex was a pleasure; the give and take critique of what we wanted the publication to look like was extremely easy and Alex always was able to take our suggestions and ideas and put them into the book’s design. The end result was a very sleek, sophisticated, and amazingly put together book. I couldn’t have asked for a better design.

Catalyst is a publication at Iowa State that focuses on why design matters to everyone and how it can affect all aspects of our lives. We are a young publication and have been extremely well received by an audience that was already oversaturated with student magazines. During 2011 I was a member of the design team, and in 2012 I was asked to step into the roll of President.
With every issue, we throw away our previous style guide and start from scratch. This gives us the freedom to experiment and approach the content in a fresh way.

Infographic on worldwide human trafficking trends and statistics. The more research I conducted on the topic, the more I felt a personal responsibility to it. The challenge was to capture the gravity of the current situation, as well as frame the statistics in a relatable way.

Sections of the six pack can be torn off, turning it into a four pack or two pack. This ensures a longer lifetime for the packaging and increases the portability of the beer case as well. The cases were made with recycled materials, soy-based inks, and zero adhesives in order to lower the environmental footprint.

Yonder & Co. Chocolates
Yonder & Company is a shop that specializes in hand made small batch chocolate. Instead of offering a large variety of product, the company prefers to focus its energies on creating a few select high-quality recipes. They also offer custom orders, as well as various other chocolate goods.
The identity and packaging subtly reference historical trading companies but maintain a restrained, modern aesthetic. Color is used to distinguish the different chocolate types. By using colors from traditional Americana, the American-made pride of the company is reinforced.

The Unhived Mind Newsletter
A newsletter that exposes conspiracies and government cover-ups. Playing with representations of paranoia and fear was a lot of fun, and this project is one of the few times in my life that googling conspiracies and hoaxes can be called "research".
An Exercise In: Editorial Design, Copywriting
A branding project done during my Junior year at Iowa State. Drawing on themes from 1950s America, my group and I developed an identity system for a quirky bed and breakfast located in San Francisco. This project received Best of Identity Development at the 2012 ADAI Student Design Exhibition.
